Having problems with your Dishwashers ?

The dishwasher will not begin wash cycle. When I press the "start" button, the "heat dry" light illuminates and the "washing" light blinks, but nothing else begins.

Hi
\015\012
\015\012When these lights flash on your machine it is actually transmitting a code which can be read by a technician to help determine where the fault lies.
\015\012
\015\012However there may be a simple fix that you can check on yourself before resorting to service repair. I am assuming from your description that your machine is not even filling with water when you go to start the wash cycle.
\015\012
\015\012As always when working on any electrical appliance make sure the dishwasher is disconnected from the mains before carrying out any work to it.
\015\012
\015\012As water is filling in your dishwasher a float rises along with it. When the float reaches a predetermined level it shuts off the flow of water by activating a switch thereby preventing a leak. Sometimes the float can get stuck way up in the wrong position in your dishwasher and the switch remains activated therefore preventing the fill of water to the machine.

If the float is stuck and has not returned to the fill position it will prevent your dishwasher from filling. Therefore the first step is to check your float assembly (see below) and replace it if you need to.

Your float assembly is found inside the dishwasher's tub, on the bottom. The water that fills your dishwasher lifts the float, and when it reaches a certain level, it acts as a trigger for the float switch. The float triggers the float switch to shut off, thereby shutting off the flow of water into the dishwasher. The float in your dishwasher needs to be able to move up and down freely. If it should happen to get stuck, it could interfere with your dishwasher's ability to fill.

To inspect the float assembly - open the dishwasher door and remove the lower dishrack. If your dishwasher has a cover over your float assembly remove it. The cover over the float will either be clicked in place or held by a screw.

Lift the float and let it drop several times. Its movement should be entirely unrestricted. Now remove your float. You are looking for any obstruction that may be hindering its movement. Floats usually snap into place. However, if you are unable to remove yours just by pulling on it, it may be connected to the float switch. If this is the case, you will need to disconnect it to look for debris.

If you are unable to find any debris that is blocking the float switch, the float switch itself may be at fault. - You will need a multimeter to test this.

You can gain access to your switch by removing the lower kickplate panel located just below the dishwasher door. This panel is usually held in place with a few screws. You might need to open the dishwasher door to gain access to and remove the screws. The door will have to be closed again so that you can remove the panel.

A dishwasher's float switch will sit below the float assembly previously mentioned. So when you find your float assembly inside your dishwasher your switch will be located directly below it in the access area.

There are going to be two wires connected to the float switch. They are connected with slip-on connectors. Its a good idea to label these wires so that you are able to correctly reconnect them later. Grasp the slip-on connectors and pull firmly to remove the wires from the switch. Do not pull on the wires themselves. You may want to use a pair of needle nose pliers to help you.

Use your multitester to test the switch. Set the device to the ohms setting x 1. Take each probe and touch them to one switch terminal each. This should produce a reading of either zero or infinity. Continue to touch the probes to the terminals, and press down on the switch's button. The reading should change to the opposite extreme.

If your switch fails either of these tests, you should replace it.

Other possible causes of water failing to fill are;
1) Water Inlet Valve Blocked
2) Faulty Door Switch
3) Failed Drain Valve Solenoid
