Having problems with your Dishwashers ?

Hi - bought this dishwasher 1 year ago yesterday (it figures). Discovered last night that it hadn't drained properly the last time I used it (maybe 5 days before). There was about 2" of soapy-feeling water in the bottom of the cabinet. I put it through another cycle and the same thing happened. I only run it maybe every couple weeks. Can you tell me how to fix it?

Hi,

Let me offer you a solution in 2 parts. A generic one needs you to investigate each and every aspect from Point 1 till End :-

\015\012\015\012\015\012\015\012\015\012Drain line/air gap\015\012\015\012A\015\012clog in the drain line or air gap (if there is one) is the usual reason\015\012that a dishwasher won't drain. Often the problem is at the point where\015\012the drain line attaches to the garbage disposer or household drain\015\012line. If you remove this line, you can clear any debris from the hose\015\012or hose connection. Be sure to reattach the hose before starting the\015\012dishwasher again.

\015\012\015\012\015\012Pump\015\012\015\012Your\015\012dishwasher pump ejects the water. The pump is usually mounted directly\015\012to the motor, then attached to the bottom of the dishwasher. You can\015\012reach the pump from inside the dishwasher, but first you need to remove\015\012the lower rack, the spray arm, and the spray arm support.

Look\015\012for an impeller--a round plastic fan blade-type of device that spins\015\012around. This is the wash impeller, which forces the water through the\015\012spray arm. Beneath the wash impeller is the drain impeller, which is\015\012similar in size and shape to the wash impeller. The drain impeller\015\012pushes the water toward the drain port. These components make up the\015\012pump. If any of the pump components are defective, you need to replace\015\012them.

\015\012\015\012\015\012Drain valve and/or solenoid\015\012\015\012Many\015\012dishwashers use a drain valve with an electric solenoid. When\015\012electricity flows to the solenoid, the valve opens and diverts the\015\012water to the drain. Sometimes the solenoid, or the diverting lever,\015\012sticks and prevents the dishwasher from draining or filling properly.\015\012Try to free up the solenoid to lubricate the lever. Otherwise, you may\015\012have to replace the solenoid or pump assembly. With these systems, the\015\012motor always rotates in one direction. When it's energized, the drain\015\012valve diverts the water.

Other dishwashers simply reverse the\015\012direction of the motor to drain the dishwasher. These units don't have\015\012a drain valve. Instead, there's a drain hose connected directly to the\015\012pump housing.

\015\012\015\012\015\012Belt\015\012\015\012One brand of dishwasher uses a belt to drive the pump. If this belt is broken or has fallen off, replace it.

\015\012\015\012\015\012Motor\015\012\015\012If\015\012the motor isn't turning or working, the unit won't drain. First check\015\012to be sure you have power to the dishwasher. If not, see the section\015\012"It doesn't work at all." If the motor hums but doesn't turn, it may\015\012need to be replaced.

Some dishwashers are susceptible to\015\012getting stuck if you don't run them regularly. If you haven't run the\015\012dishwasher for more than a week, you may need to manually spin the\015\012motor to free it up. If the motor is defective, you need to replace it.\015\012Dishwasher motors can't be serviced.

\015\012\015\012\015\012Timer\015\012\015\012Part\015\012of what the timer does is control the motor and drain valve. If the\015\012timer doesn't work properly, the water may not drain and you need to\015\012replace the timer. This problem is uncommon.

Now,

If we make an intelligent guess on the basis of the information you have given us, i guess the problem sounds like there might not be enough water in the machine.\015\012This dishwasher looks to be a standard tank dishwasher that is not an\015\012energy saver model. The condition can be caused by a build up of\015\012sediments in the water valve. You will need to remove the lower panel\015\012and disconnect the water line from the valve. On the valve you will see\015\012four screws that hold the fitting to the valve. Remove these screws\015\012noting the position so you can reassemble the same way. When you have\015\012the bracket off the valve you have the sediment screen exposed, clean\015\012out any grit and reassemble the parts. Check for proper water fill. The\015\012water should be almost up to the bottom of the lower spray arm, a good\015\012amount of water. Make sure that you have the rinse aid dispenser full.\015\012Run the dishwasher through a cycle with vinegar to cut out some of the\015\012scale build up. This repair will not resolve\015\012any problems with dishes that are already etched with the build up.\015\012Those dishes can be treated with Lime away which might take some of it\015\012off. Last please check to make sure that your water temperature is at\015\012least 140* minimum.

From a Website, there is a posting :-

\015\012\015\012\015\012\015\012Dishwasher Leaves Spots or Film \015\012\015\012\015\012\015\012\015\012\015\012If\015\012your dishes or glassware appear filmy or spotted following a complete\015\012wash cycle, adjusting the amount or type of detergent you're using and\015\012adjusting your hot water heater's water temperature\015\012may solve the problem. But before you do either of these, put a rinse\015\012additive (such as Jet-Dry) in the rinse dispenser to improve the\015\012sheeting action of the water.
\015\012\015\012\015\012\015\012\015\012\015\012\015\012\015\012
First\015\012you'll have to determine whether the film is removable or permanently\015\012etched. To do this, soak a glass in undiluted white vinegar for about\015\01215 minutes. Or, you can wash the glass with warm water and concentrated\015\012dishwasher detergent or use a high-phosphate detergent (such as Glass\015\012Magic) according to label directions.
If film comes off, it is\015\012probably caused by hard water minerals, improper amounts of detergent,\015\012or unsuitable water temperature. For more, see "Dishwasher Doesn't Wash\015\012Well."
Permanent etching is often caused by a combination of\015\012soft water and excessive heat or detergent. If glassware is permanently\015\012etched, there isn't anything you can do to make it clear again. But you\015\012can avoid future etching by taking these steps:
From the Maytag company:

Removing Hard Water Filming On Your Dishes

The\015\012white, hard water film occurs when hardness minerals from the water are\015\012deposited on the glasses and tub. This is a film that normally occurs\015\012when the water is hard, not enough detergent is used, water temperature\015\012is low or no rinse aid is used.
