Having problems with your Dishwashers ?

I live in Omaha, NE and we have a stainless steel dishwasher. We use Cascade detergent and have huge issues with the film residue being left on our dishes & silverware due to the phosphate issue with your product. Two Questions: 1) how do we solve the problem, and 2) what is your commitment to replace dishes, utensils, and silverware that has been ruined

Answers :

There\012 are 3 standard answers to solving the white-deposits-on -dishes \012problem: 1) Use a rinse aid; 2) use less detergent; 3) use vinegar in \012the washer. If you have hard water, none of these may work, especially \012if you've had the problem for a while. Because phosphates were ordered \012removed from dishwasher detergents, hard water minerals can now react \012with the soap to create a heavy greasy-feeling scum. That scum can \012build up in the water lines, arms, bottom reservoir, and filter, \012providing an endless supply of goo to spray on your dishes. This can be\012 fixed. You need to remove and clean out the spray arms, the filters, \012and especially the array of parts at the bottom of the tub. I've seen \012up to 1 cup of coagulated/crystallized scum in the bottom of dishwasher \012tubs. Once you clean out the scum, then run the washer empty with a completely full detergent cup on\012 the highest temperature setting, extra rinse. Before you start it add \012to the detergent cup 1 teaspoon of TSP(tri-sodium phosphate), a very \012powerful phosphate cleaner available at hardware stores. Your washer \012will now have all scum gone from the inner workings. From now on you \012must always fill both your detergent and pre-wash cups to the max and \012use a high temperature water setting, extra rinse. Chemically what \012you're trying to do is adding so much detergent that the scum-forming \012reaction is overwhelmed by the dispersant action of the detergent, and \012the extra heat helps this to be more effective. I am not a fan of \012vinegar in the wash cycle. Why? In some washers the vinegar fumes can \012reach the exposed contacts of the printed circuit board or touch pad, \012corrode them, and then your washer won't work at all, along with being \012very expensive to fix.
Sorry to disappoint, but this is a general internet help forum. I really don't know who you are complaining to: the Cascade detergent makers, or the company who sold you your dishwasher. You should most likely call them if you believe you want silverware replaced??\015\012But I honestly do not know if they would because they can say it was all about your choices in detergents; how do they know it was the dishwasher and not previous issues, etc...\015\012
\015\012BUT since you are posted let me see if I can help anyway: do you have a rinse agent?\015\012Many people do not realize that the simplest and best way to have dishes without film is with the rinse agents, because of varying hard water issues. Which could have also be part of whatever happened to your dishes. \015\012Me I like Finish detergent and Finish rinse agent. I feel it is best to use matching detergents/rinse agents. \015\012Also if you use a powered detergent make sure the spray of the water jets are able to hit the powder. If not the soap will cake in the tray.\015\012Well hope that helps a little.

On 2/18/09, I had a part replaced (due to a recent recall issue) on our Bosch dishwasher, SHU43C06UC. I had not had any problems with my dishwasher - ever - and, since the replacement, my dishes are not being properly cleaned. The Sears repairman who replaced the part tells me that the part he replaced has nothing to do with my present issue and, because my DW is no longer under warranty, I would have to pay for any further services he may provide. 1) What do I need to do to troubleshoot this di

Dishwasher problems Hi. I have been having issues with my dishwasher the last month or so. There is a white powder-like residue left on dishes. I noticed it most on my silverware. At first I thought the detergent didn't rinse off completely so I did a ran it again without any detergent a couple of times. Still there. I bought some stuff that is supposed to remove build up from hard water. did that twice. Increased the amount in the rinse aid dispenser. Now I have noticed that the drying coil? is

My dishwasher recently started leaving a white, chalky residue on all the dishes. It wasn't gradual at all. One day everything was fine and all the dishes clean and the next they were covered in nasty residue. We've ruled out any issues with soap, rinse agents and hard water. A appliance repair guy came out and said the float was "tampered" with and said that he fixed it. He said that if the problem came back we need to order a new float assembly kit.
