Having problems with your Dishwashers ?

My Hotpoint DWF31S dishwasher fills but won't wash. It doesn't drain either, unless I activate the flood microswitch. I re-soldered the heater relay as one of the pins had burned out. Is there a diagnostic mode I can run from the LCD front panel/connect a serial lead to diagnose the fault?

Hi,
\015\012
\015\012This is almost definitely a control board fault or somewhere in the water heating circuit / components. You pretty much answered your own question when you stated that you had re-soldered the heater relay because one of the pins had "burned out". You've indicated that you re-soldered the original relay rather than replacing it. Have you checked for a dry-joint? How do you know the relay is functioning correctly?
\015\012
\015\012A fault in the heater relay is consistent with the symptoms you described. This is why the washer fills but does not advance. The IC is waiting for the sensor to report the water has reached the correct temperature. It's not receiving this signal because the water isn't heating. This could be because the heater relay is not closing or possibly because the element is burned out. This could be how the relay got damaged in the first place. Have you resistance tested the element for an open circuit? If it's OK, you should get a reading of about 25-30 ohms.
\015\012
\015\012If the element was burning out, it may have increased the load through the heater relay above the maximum rating, causing the relay to fail. I need to verify which control board is in this machine, but I also know of one particular board with an under-rated heater relay.
\015\012
\015\012I think you may be over-complicating this. While the diagnostic mode can help to identify the faulty circuit, they don't always nail the problem down to a particular component or specific fault.
\015\012
\015\012Please can you answer the above questions and let me know any tests you have done in relation to the heating circuitry and/or components. In the meantime, I will check on which control board is in your machine.
\015\012
\015\012Regards,
\015\012BElectric
From what I gather it looks like the mother board has a failure within of the system control section.
\015\012If there is display to the unit without any error notifications, then the customer control panel must work to initiate the manual process. If this wont work then the possible fault of the processor controller must be confirmed.
\015\012Only if the controller works , can be go to check if the outputs are powered on the cycle. Also the input to trigger can only result in an error of the set cycle/program.
\015\012So bypassing a program must let the machine to start up , if not the program controller panel must be checked. make sure that the burnt out of the relay has not affected the board or has damaged any semiconductor device.
