I noticed a burning smell coming from it the other day and then realized that although I can hear water running into the dishwasher when I start it, it never actually runs in the sense that the water is pushed through the various outlets to wash the dishes. Even though I turned up the thermostat on my hot water heater, the water in the dishwasher does not seem to be hot enough. I have a whirlpool dishwasher DU915WKSO: when I turn the dishwasher on, the heating element comes on but no water comes into the unit. I have a GE Profile Dishwasher, Model# PDW7880J03SS that doesnt dry the dishes. I pulled out the dishwasher and checked the heating element for continuity with my ohm meter and got a closed circuit reading. This sounds like a bad relay or contactor that feeds power to the element. Opening the door most likely cuts power to the entire system.
