Hi. I'm scratch building a pressure washer using a Comet BXD2831G pump. If I don't plan on using any type of detergent, is it OK (or manditory) to plug the detergent intake to keep it from sucking air? I would use a short piece of hose over the intake with a screw in the opposite end. Also, is it possible to set the pressure by ear? If so, what should I listen for? Thanks for your help!

I have the Coleman powermate 2400 PSI pressure washer and on initial start it sprays and has great pressure. But once I release the spray handle it will not spray again, not even one drop of water.
