I have a whirlpool gold model GU1500 diswasher. In between wash cycles, water seems to back up into the dishwasher. I had a plumber take a look at the drain and disposal in the kitchen sink to see if there was an issue there. He suggested to have appliance repair tech to come look and indicated that he believed that the issue may be the "cylianoid" valve. I've had my Nautilus for 6 years and it cleans very well - but now, it won't drain fully and pools at the bottom of the unit. I have made sure that my garbage disposal was cleared first, too. and that water was draining properly in the sinks. I will need special tools to unscrew the drain filter in the dishwasher, right, or can I just use a pair of pliers to turn the little knobs? I am always careful to rinse all food off the dishes before putting them in the washer, but I guess I wasn't careful

After wash cycles are completed there is about 1/2 gallon of water remaining in the bottom of the washer. I checked the drain that exits into a disposal and that is clear. All around the bottom of the washer base is clean and I can find no obstruction. Nothing in the owners manual gives me a clue as what else to do. I don't want to start taking things apart unless I have to.
