Dishwasher stopped draining after cycle

\015 The dishwasher ran one cycle. I noticed a pool of water at the bottom that hasn't drained out. Can you help?\015

Answers :

Some water always remains in the bottom of the DW (al least with most DW) but here is some help....

GE dishwashers will have a sump\015\012entrance screen ( #4 ) that should be\015\012removed and checked for any gookus, see 1 or 2 screws on the cover top, which is\015\012behind the lower spray arm. Almost all ( some newer GE dishwashers have a separate\015\012drain pump and motor - but for our purpose, we will talk about the most\015\012common GE dishwashers ) GE dishwashers have a drain\015\012solenoid ( #1 ) that can fail and stop\015\012the draining. If the solenoid cannot pull in the silver plunger, the drain port\015\012will not open to allow the motor and pump assembly to drain the water out. The\015\012solenoid can be ohmed\015\012with an ohm meter for continuity, or tested to see if it is receiving 110-120 volts AC. Many GE\015\012dishwashers have a self\015\012clean filter ( #3 ) inside at the back.\015\012The draining water must pass through a plunger in the self clean filter body.\015\012This can get clogged up, or the plunger may twist and distort and not allow the\015\012draining water to get past. The filter can be removed from the inside and the\015\012plunger will twist out of the self cleaning body for testing/checking. Next obstacle\015\012for the draining water in the back\015\012flush valve ( #2 ). This valve can twist\015\012or distort and block the water flow as well. The drain port will need to be\015\012accessed to check this flapper valve, the drain port will untwist from the self\015\012clean filter body. All hoses in-between the items mentioned above and the drain\015\012hose itself all the way to the house plumbing should be checked for\015\012restrictions.

\015\012Some extra filter, draining tips and pictures....
\015\012
\015\012During the wash and rinse modes of the cycle, soiled water\015\012falls down the back of the tub and into the filter area. The water comes through\015\012the filter and back into the tub. During the wash and rinse periods all ( we\015\012hope! ) the water will pass through the filter. The soil will settle into the\015\012collection chamber and is held there. When the dishwasher goes into the pump out\015\012mode the water in the sump is pumped through the collection chamber. This closes\015\012the piston valve to the inside of the tub. The pump flushes the collection\015\012chamber of all the food soil and pumps it down the drain. A check valve is\015\012located in the drain line port. This valve allows the water to flow in the drain\015\012direction only and prevents the water from coming back into the tub. The drain\015\012line check valve must close in the back flow direction or the piston valve in\015\012the collection chamber may not reopen into the tub after the pump out is\015\012complete. Water should "fall" through the filter and go back into the\015\012tub....the heavier food particles go down into the chamber and are collected.

Here\015\012is a link for you to check out...I have all this info in my data base\015\012but since it is in PDF format it does not translate well to this\015\012format...

My dishwasher skips the final drain cycle. The lines are all clean and there is no clog. It drains just fine in the beginning of the wash cycle. Every time I do a load of dishes I have to run the full cycle, then leave the machine open for 3-4 hours and start the cycle again and listen for the drain at the beginning of the wash to drain the machine from the initial wash and stop the machine after it is done draining so it won't fill up again. Sometimes we have to unplug it and wait about an hour

The dishwasher pump sounds like it is trying to drain, even when the stop button is pressed and the door is opened. The only thing that stops it is turning the power off at the power point. However, when the power is turned on the pump continues. The wash cycle icon flashes, but the usual cycle indicator is not lit at all. The dishwasher will not commence a new cycle.
