\015\012\015\012Thanks for using FixYa. Dishwasher not\015\012draining properly or not draining at all issues can arise due to different\015\012reasons. Usually, these issues are related to kinked hoses, knocked out\015\012disposer unit (if connected with the dishwasher drain hose) & clogged drain\015\012pump & filter. Also note that dishwashers do not drain completely after a\015\012finished cycle and this is normal. Dishwashers are designed to leave some water\015\012in the unit to ensure that the heating element doesn’t overheat. If a large\015\012amount of water is being retained in the dishwasher then there is an issue.\015\012Some of the most common reasons include that the drain hose isn’t working\015\012properly, the drain pump isn’t working correctly, or possibly there is a\015\012plumbing problem in your home’s drain lines. First check whether the drain is\015\012not clogged or blocked and the line is not kinked. Check all the hoses for\015\012blockages & also clean the air gap. Has the disposer been replaced\015\012recently? If so, chances are the knockout is still in place. Simply remove the\015\012drain hose from the disposer, and knock out the plug. If the disposer has not\015\012been replaced, try removing the drain hose from the disposer and use a wet-dry\015\012vacuum (prepared for water, of course) to **** any water (and hopefully\015\012anything else) from the drain line. Then reconnect the hose, and test the unit.\015\012If you have checked the air gap and the drain hose and can’t locate the\015\012problem, then it is an issue with the drain pump of the dishwasher.
\015\012\015\012
\015\012\015\012To check the whining\015\012noise clean the pump and then check drain hose for any obstruction. Also check\015\012for a bad bearing on the spray arm. If still the issue is not resolved\015\012then it’s the motor that makes the noise you hear.\015\012The motor has bearings in it which may become worn or get rusty. When the\015\012bearings get worn, they allow the shaft to wobble which can get quite loud. If\015\012there is a spin seal leak, water may get inside the motor, washing the bearing\015\012grease away. If the spin seal is leaking, you’ll notice water leaking from\015\012under the dishwasher. There is also a disc attached to the top of the motor\015\012called a slinger. It sometimes breaks off and spins around the motor's shaft\015\012while it turns, causing some noises. You will need to replace the motor if the\015\012bearings are bad. You also need to replace the motor if the slinger is broken as\015\012well.
\015\012\015\012
\015\012\015\012Please do accept the solution if the issue is\015\012resolved or else revert for further assistance.

GE GHDA485N 10CS Dishwasher that has standing water in the bottom after the cycle completes. I pulled it out and reconnected power and ran a rinse cycle. I could see that water was pumping out the clear drain pipe but there was still about an inch of standing water in the bottom. Any thoughts as to what part has failed. Does the system use a water level switch or a timed drain cycle to determine when the water has pumped out. If it is a timed cycle could a slow drain cause the problem. Thank you
