Water does not drain from tub. I think it is clogged and need to know how to clean out the drain.

Answers :

If this is a Whirlpool top loader as you have this listed under, you need to check your lid switch.

If the washer fills and doesn't do anything, or stops right after the wash cycle and then does not advance to the rinse cycle and drain is commonly caused by a lid switch malfunction. The lid switch is usually mounted under the washer top casing, on the right hand side on most top load models. It is activated by a plastic piece on the lid (called a "Lid Strike") through a small hole on the rim of the wash tub opening. In many cases the lid strike breaks off the lid, or the lid switch becomes loose and no longer makes contact. Inspect the lid to make sure the lid strike is still intact, and then inspect the mounting screws (adjacent to the small opening on the wash tub rim) and make sure they are snug.

If the switch is not activated by a lid strike, it will activated by a hinge actuator located next to either the left or right lid hinge. You will need to remove the operator console in order to access this type of switch.

If you determine the switch to be defective, the following link explains how to replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385198-replacing_lid_switch

A new lid switch (if needed) can be purchased on line at searspartsdirect.com, pcappliancerepair.com, repairclinic.com, appliancepartspros.com. All these sites offer competitive pricing, so shop all them for the best price.

\015\012If the lid switch checks good, you can still inspect the drain pump if you like. However, there are no electrical connections on this pump and it only has one moving part - the impeller. They do not commonly clog. The steps for removing the washer casing in the link I provided will give you access to the drain pump. It is located directly below the wash tub on the front. If the tub is full of water, an easy way of draining it is to use a wet/dry shop vac and pull a vacuum on the drain hose. If the water drains freely with no restrictions (if restricted the drain line will collapse from the vacuum), the pump isn't clogged. If you don't own a shop vac, simple gravity will also do the trick by placing the drain line on the floor. However, I wouldn't recommend this unless the washer is in a garage or basement where the water can drain somewhere. Once the tub is drained, you can remove the two drain hoses and check inside the pump for obstructions.

If you have questions, or need additional assistance, please let me know. Please post back with a complete model number (located on a nameplate around the wash tub opening) with your questions, so that I may be able to provide you with better assistance. I hope this is helpful.

NOTE: You do not need to bail or empty the wash tub to complete the repair if replacing the lid switch.

We ran a cycle with 'Lemi Shine' a hard water treatment (Lime remover). After that cycle, the tub will fill and drain, but the water does not reciculate. So, I assume the deposits loosened and then clogged either the recirculation pump or a sensor that activates it. I don't know how to determin that or how to access the senors/floats. I do know if it's the pump that's clogged, I have to remove the thing and flip it on its top to access, but don't know the details.

Hi. Both the drain hose and recirculation hoses should be checked, asap. These hoses are connected to the pump assembly and they can also both become obstructed, as well. I have a Whirlpool Gold Quiet Partner III that is 8 years old and recently stopped cleaning top rack dishes. I remember finding a mylar like piece in the bottom of the tub and threw it away thinking it came off of something we washed (I know, bad thinking.) The mylar piece measured roughly 3-4inx2in and was folded in half. Anyways....the upper arm does not spin and the detergent doesnt get fully dispensed so dishes dont get fully cleaned. I am guessing not enough water pressure to upper arm. Wou

Bad smell This is more of a general question. When I run the dishwasher there is a bad smell as it fills with water. It comes out of the sink/garbage disposal. I have cleaned out the line that comes from the garbage disposal to the drain and that doesn't stop the smell. Is there a line that needs to be cleaned from the dishwasher to the sink or how can I fix this issue? My dishwasher, at the drain, has water standing and it smells. I think it is there from condensation as the dishwasher, unknow

How to diagnose? My Kenmore won't run. First it was flashing the clean light 7 times, so I figured out how to reset ("High Temp Scrub"/"Air Dry"/"High Temp Scrub"/"Air Dry"), but when I try to run a wash, it sounds like it's not getting water into the tub. When I checked it several minutes later, it was in "Cancel" mode, making a sound like it was draining (or trying to drain), then the clean light started flashing 7 times again. Clearly, the machine has something wrong but I don't know where to

Magic Chef DU4K is not draining all the water. There's at least a gallon of water standing in the bottom. I have cleaned the air gap assembly and drain line completely. They were even sanitized in hot water. I do not hear the water draining like it use to. When it worked properly you could always hear water draining into the GD. Now I can hear any draining. Again, there is no clogging anywhere in the drain line assembly. Is it a bad pump. I don't know where to go next with this.

I have a Quiet Guard Standard model #587.151524 that is not cleaning the dishes. I took the bottom spray arm and screens out and cleaned them, (they had a heavy buildup of what I would say is calcium. The arm cleaned up fine but the screen still has some areas that will not allow the water to drain. I tried CLR and it helped but the screen is still probably 60% clogged. Do you think this is the problem getting the dishes clean and if so do you have any suggestions about how to clean the screen?

Hi, I have a Fisher Paykel DD603I (integrated) dishdrawer unit. The bottom drawer soap dispenser has water in it after it runs (and leftover soap), and there is a small amount of water sitting in the bottom of the drawer. The dishes don't get totally clean.
