In a surprising move, the Boston Red Sox traded a top prospect to the Yankees for catcher Carlos Narváez, shaking up their roster.
Boston: The Red Sox just made a big splash by trading for catcher Carlos Narváez from the Yankees. They gave up minor league pitcher Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz and some cash to seal the deal.
This trade comes right after Boston sent their top catching prospect, Kyle Teel, to the White Sox. It’s not every day you see the Red Sox and Yankees making a trade, especially with how heated their rivalry is.
Narváez, who’s 26, had a brief stint with the Yankees this year, hitting .231 in just six games. Before that, he played well in Triple-A, hitting .254 with 11 home runs and 58 RBIs over 96 games. He’s versatile too, having played catcher, designated hitter, and even first base.
To make room for Narváez, the Red Sox designated second baseman Enmanuel Valdez for assignment. Valdez was their opening day starter last season, so it’s a notable change.
As for Rodriguez-Cruz, he’s a promising young pitcher. At just 21, he had a solid season with a 2.91 ERA and 102 strikeouts over 89 innings. Boston picked him in the fourth round of the 2021 draft, so they’re giving up some potential here.
