Dick Allen and Dave Parker are set to join the Baseball Hall of Fame, finally receiving the recognition they deserve after years of waiting and hard work.
Philadelphia: Big news in the baseball world! Dick Allen and Dave Parker are finally getting their due as they’re set to be inducted into the Hall of Fame next July. It’s about time, right?
Both players were announced as inductees after receiving enough votes from the Classic Era committee. Allen made it on 13 of 16 ballots, while Parker was on 14. They were the only two to hit that 75% mark needed for induction.
This committee was pretty impressive, featuring six Hall of Famers and a mix of executives and historians. It’s a big deal to be recognized by such a knowledgeable group.
Allen’s journey to the Hall has been a long one. He was just one vote shy in 2015 and again in 2021, shortly after he passed away. But now, he’s finally getting the call he’s deserved for so long.
He was the 1964 Rookie of the Year and the 1972 MVP, making a name for himself with the Phillies, who were the last National League team to integrate. Despite his talent, he had a rocky relationship with the team, which is a shame.
After asking for a trade, he ended up with the Cardinals, and then the Dodgers, before making a big impact with the White Sox. His time there was short, but he left a lasting impression with fans.
Allen returned to the Phillies for a couple of seasons but didn’t quite find his groove again. He retired with impressive stats, including 351 home runs. His number was retired by the Phillies in 2020, just before he passed away, which shows how much he meant to the franchise.
