Bob Melvin expresses confidence in Camilo Doval’s potential for a strong comeback in the 2025 MLB season after a challenging year
San Francisco: So, Bob Melvin is gearing up for the 2025 season with some big expectations for Camilo Doval. Last year was a bit rough for Doval, but Melvin believes he can bounce back strong. He’s got a solid closer in Ryan Walker, who did great last season, but Doval is the wild card here.
Melvin mentioned on the “Giants Talk” podcast that he’s looking forward to seeing Doval shine again. He thinks Doval has the potential to be a key player for the team. After all, he was an All-Star in 2023, so there’s definitely talent there. Melvin feels that Doval just needs to focus on cleaning up a few things from last year.
It’s interesting because Doval even got sent down to Triple-A for a bit to work on his game. But he handled it like a champ, came back with a fresh attitude, and showed he’s ready to contribute. Melvin is optimistic that Doval can return to form and help solidify the bullpen.
And let’s not forget about Wilmer Flores. He’s been a consistent hitter for the Giants, but after some knee surgery, he’s been a bit under the radar. Melvin is hopeful that Flores will be back to his old self next season. With a low salary, it makes sense for the Giants to see how he performs in spring training.
As for the young pitchers, Landen Roupp is someone to keep an eye on. He had a solid debut last season and impressed a lot of scouts. The Giants are planning to stretch him out in spring training, but they still need to figure out his role. It’s going to be an interesting season ahead for the Giants!
