Reports suggest the Yankees aren’t considering Pete Alonso, even as they seek to strengthen their lineup after Juan Soto’s departure.
According to Mark Feinsand from MLB.com, Alonso “doesn’t appear to be on their radar.” Honestly, it makes sense. The Yankees already have a couple of older power hitters, Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton, who strike out a lot. Adding Alonso, who also has a high strikeout rate, would just make their lineup more one-dimensional.
As the Yankees try to boost their offense, they’re looking at other free agents like Alex Bregman and Anthony Santander. They’re even considering a trade for Cubs’ Cody Bellinger. Meanwhile, the Mets are keen on keeping Alonso around.
Mets president David Stearns mentioned they have the resources to retain him if they want. He said, “We’d love to bring Pete back. He’s been a great Met.” Alonso had a decent season, playing all 162 games and hitting 34 home runs, but he really shined in the postseason, helping the Mets reach the NLCS. It’ll be interesting to see how this all plays out!
